I was in the 3rd grade when I first experienced the rush of being the object of someone’s desire. One thing you need to know before I tell you this story is that it was the 80s, and Adidas was having a moment. Not just in shoe popularity, but in pop culture in general.
Not that I was hip on pop culture, just that everyone was hip on Adidas.
I was minding my own 3rd grade business when, unbeknownst to me, a boy in my class developed a crush on yours truly. His name was Michael Roberts, and he asked me if I knew what Adidas stood for.
I did not.
To which he replied: All Day I Dream About Stephanie.
And I felt that first rush of being the object of someone’s attention.
It was intoxicating, in all the best ways.
Note to self: you don’t always have to be scanning the horizon for boyfriend candidates. It’s actually more fun when it catches you unaware.
