What I'm Doing for a Mid Year Reset
that you should consider doing too!
I read about the idea for quarterly goals retreats in the book Essentialism, in what feels like a million years ago (read: pre-pandemic), and romanticized about one day having the kind of life where I could have my own personal quarterly retreats.
And I romanticized so hard, that now it’s my life! Two years running (6 quarterly retreats in!) and they are constantly evolving! My posts about all of them (except this original one) are stuck in drafts, but that’s ok because I just stumbled upon something even better! You can do it from absolutely anywhere, anytime this summer, and it’s not just easy, it’s insanely delightful, and it’s totally going to have you jazzed for your life right now and the rest of the year’s unfolding.
And since we are leaning into that jazzed and enthusiastic energy to attract opportunities (instead of chasing them), let’s get into it!
Introducing: The Mid-Year Reset
I’m still word-smithing what to call so that you know exactly what it is AND it sounds like the most amazing thing you’ll do all summer, ideas welcome.
What It Is
An ode to the halfway mark in the year. A love letter to your yesterday yourself for everything that has come before now. A message in a bottle to your future self for everything you are still manifesting. A transmission from your higher self for areas you need to refresh and refine so the rest of the year is absolutely magnetic.
You can make a whole hour, afternoon, or weekend out of this, but I urge you to not to overcomplicate it so much that you don’t do it at all. Even if you only pick one, it’s better than doing none.
OH! and if you’re in a relationship and want to do it with a partner will you please let me know how it goes, I very much think it could be electric in pairs!
Step 1: The Love Letter
Answer these 3 questions:
What am I proud of (past 6 months)
What am I excited about (next 6 months)
What is working (right now)
For added magic: don’t just make a list, bring it to life! Ideas for this: tell a friend, make a video, make a reverse vision board (photo collage of everything you’ve already visioned).
If you're not sure how to bring this list to life, you can always check out your sixth sense in Human Design. My sixth sense is Outer Vision, which just means I love having a visual to go along with the words. Accordingly, I made a youtube short to represent a quick flip through many of the things on my proud of list. Scroll to bottom to see.
If you’re not sure what your sixth sense is DM me and I’ll look it up for you.
Step 2: The Message in a Bottle
OMG, if you only do one step, let it be this one.
Dream up 3 things that would delight you if they came to fruition between now and the end of the year. Thing of this as 3 things you are manifesting between now and the end of the year.
Find a treasure to represent each one, plus one additional that you will use to say “surprise me”. Anything in nature works well here.
Release each of the 4 like you are casting your dream into the universe (or throwing a coin into trevi fountain), on the last one say the words “surprise me.” Maybe even add a wink!
And then: GO ABOUT YOUR LIFE!
I did this over the weekend and recorded a mini-vlog about it, scroll to bottom to view.
Step 3: The Transmission
The most important thing I can tell you about this step is not to let it be heavy. We aren’t diving into the depths here, we are looking for obvious things and letting our intuition be our guide. If you talk to your higher self, invite her to this list because she always knows best:
What is not working (right now)
What do you want to try instead (next 6 months)
What is one thing you can commit to for the next 21 days to get one or more of these things working
I am still in process with this one, so I can share more later. But I’ll give you a simple example that is currently in play. My cold plunge is literally (and maybe even figuratively) not working. I know this is champagne problems, but it’s always been one of my favorite modalities for: energy, focus, and clarity. The pump broke earlier this month and it’s just sitting empty taking up real estate in my favorite room in the house while I figure out what to do. So it is NOT working. And you know what I kind of want to try: getting it fixed, but instead of chilling it to below 55°. Converting it to a float tank! I love to float: in the ocean, in a pool, in a sensory deprivation tank. What if I got it fixed, kept the temperature at something more palatable, and used something to buoy me so I could float. This is a very niche example, but it’s real! The part has been ordered and my plunge repair man has been scheduled. To be continued but those are my answers: the plunge is not working, I want to try using it as a home float tank, I am committing to taking the steps to get it fixed and researching the highest temperature it’s safe to keep it at over the next couple of weeks. Viola~
My daily dose sessions are a really sweet space to take aligned action on the thing you are committing to! I am launching the July Sessions soon, scroll to bottom for more details.
In Living Color
I am living this all imperfectly and out loud. Sharing only to say I didn’t read this in a book or construct it with AI. This is how my experiments of quarterly retreats are evolving, and it would work so well as a mid-year reset. If you try any of it let me know!
